Northwave SL.AM speed comparison with a BOA-type system
How fast is Northwave's new SL.AM closure system compared with a so-called BOA-type system? In Northwave's video the same person closes two boots side by side, each with its own timer.
What does the video show?
On the left is a boot with a so-called BOA-type system, on the right Northwave SL.AM. The timers stop at:
- SL.AM: 4.5 seconds
- So-called BOA-type system: 13.9 seconds
The difference is about 9.4 seconds, so closing the boot with SL.AM is roughly three times faster. This matches the manufacturer's claim that SL.AM is up to three times faster than other mechanisms on the market.
How to close a boot with SL.AM
- Take the handle.
- Pull up the handle.
To open the boot, twist the mechanism and pull out the tongue. Tension is distributed evenly across the boot, so the foot is wrapped precisely and without pressure points.
What to keep in mind
This is Northwave's own video, so the times are the ones shown by the manufacturer. The actual speed depends on the boot and on how used the person is to the system. Even so, the side-by-side comparison clearly shows how much shorter closing is with SL.AM.
